CONTROL ROOM - THANKYOU!

Thanks for posting, your support was amazing and when the performers read it they will know they did an excellent job!
Congratulations to everyone involved! Although I have found the experience of watching unsettling at times it has also been hypnotic and it feels really strange now that is has finished, as if something is missing. The artwork looks wonderful and it was intiguing to see how it had developed since I last viewed it several hours ago. Hope you all have a restful day.
go harry!
Brilliant! So pleased I got up to watch the end. This has been absolutely incredible. Hooray for Satie! Hooray for pianists! Hooray for artists and dancers! Hooray for techy people! Hooray for the University of Chichester! Hooray for conceptual art! Hooray for life! Adam (the midnight shift)
Amazing, Jackie
What an event, how are those dancers still dancing?
Well done Jonathan - you must be exhausted!

Well done everyone. Coffee and Vexations to start the day! Have been following on and off throughout and have felt vexed, mesmerized and hypnotized in equal measure. MH Media Dept.
Thrilled to have been a part of this event - thanks to Jonathan for encouraging us all. Now go get some sleep! Wendy P
Are we doing a countdown from 10? And how about getting faster on each one now to conclude by 9? The gauntlet of challenge has been thrown.
We all like the way this piece has evolved whilst we have been asleep. Well done Nic et al. Love Rose and Luke and the Heaton Moor mob.
Yes - 12 more to go!! We saw that sneaky peek at the counter!
I swear Jonathan's hair has grown overnight!
Jonathan - making it seem effortless!
Go Mum Russell/Childs!
And finally the person responsible, and after no sleep all night!
Well done David!
I wonder how the dancers and artists are feeling having listened to the same music for nearly 18 hours?!
This has been a fantastic event. Very impressed with all the pianists and their different interpretations. Congratulations to the artists and dancers and all the technical team and behind the scenes crew plus the Vexations Project Manager. A triumph! Catherine x
brighton is awake and very impressed

CONTROL ROOM

Hi everyone,

We are in the final hour now. Let us know what you think of all the performers and where you are watching from.
Nic, we are overcome by your amazing achievement and have sat fascinated as your creation unfolded - like you, delicate yet strong, simple yet complex, beautiful and imaginative. From north to south we are with you all the way. Jean, Derek and the Sunderland mob.
and the piano continues as the dancers keep dancing and the elastic takes form - amazing event
Nic - u are as amazing and original as your sculpture x

Enjoying your playing Ben!
wowie this piece sounds hard to play. anyone who has played so far, how hard is it? Kate D

Morning Madness with Vexations

Has everyone gone to bed? Has Vexations put you into a yogic trance? Let us know - tell us where you are watching from...
Had a few beers, with it on nonstop, went to the pub, went home with it ringing in my ears, tried to take a nap, found i was too disturbed and in any case would probably oversleep! I'm on in two hours and it's definitely going to be the most surreal performance of my life...Huge respect to the dancers though, I'm amazed at their resilience.Socrates x
Wooo go jamie! thru that letter box
yay jamie!!
Jonathan Jonathan Jonathan!!Fantastic playing!! And this music makes me hungry......:0
my head is about to explode
140 posts... impressive! Let's make it 200 before I leave at 3:00!

Ashley - Control Room
It's just occured to me that Dan and Ben got their fashion sense from Eric Satie himself! Check the picture! ---->
Do we think Ben Hall will be dressed differently when he comes back.

The odds are at 3-1 that he will be wearing a black hat!!
my head is about to explode
Great stuff Jonathan! Super doops.
I rather enjoyed Adam's post on the performers' page. He's obviously a man of many words, and his counting skills are superb!
INCREDIBLE!! :/
Woo Jonathans spaced out! We're doomed! I know, play Bumble boogie!!
It's times like these I'm glad I'm not a pianist... Lol
BEN! IT SAYS TRES LENT!!!
Looking forward to ben interveiw. what a joker
wooo Ben the original dude with the hat :P nice playing

Rebecca

OK, so I came expecting to stay 30 mins - three hours later off to sleep while this continues through the night. Thank you Cathy Child and all the dancers - you caught me. I probably groaned when first suggested - how wrong was that. Caught too by the varied response of the pianists to the piece and with the quiet creation of the artwork. thanks everyone and especially to those technical guys who made this possible.
yay! ben! go u! errr... what are the peeps in the bottom 2 frames doing?
There is no set tempo play as fast as you like
jesus slow down!!!!!!!!!
A most interesting and intriguing experience for both performers and audience.Well executed and organised.
Top playing monsieur Lathbury, but what a shame this piece doesn't allow for some of your trademark arm throwing gestures! Tej
Loving the interveiws lets have some more please
bens interpretation seems very sinister to me
thanks from all
good work guys, it looks and sounds awesome have been wathing on and off all night, am going to bed now but will watch some more in the morning! good luck
It sounds awesome if you play both the chord themes at the same time. Ben that is some wack stacatissimo...
for me the dance is realy echoing the mood of the music right now
intersting dynamics lath
Adam, where were the glasses?!
Hahaha I know Ben was going to wear his Hat. Talk about Copying that other guy :p
Upn my first hearing of this music it gave me a sense of desolation due to its disrigared of tonal centre however after listening for about 4 hours now its becoming strangly relaxing perhaps the repitions are changing my perception make the dissonant harmonies seem less odd
48 reps Mr Lathbury? Good job your dance comp is all finished... LJ

adam you machine
Wowza adam with your terrifyingly perfect repeats I'm convinced you're part robot now. Must be all that contemporary muzak... Inspiring stuff, big respect from Socrates
around 8 0r 9am
What time is it due to end? Seems to be moving along much faster than expected...
I believe alot of the dance is improvised its an intersing contrast to the repetitve music
strangely addictive
Yay everyone were just went over half. The picture is starting to reveal as with the art
Its very a mellow piece, but it brings out emotions. Its enhancing them more than they would usually be...if that makes sense..?
Easy camera, lots of Adam close ups going on!
yes it is i nerver thought of it like that
Clever how the artwork looks like the strings inside the piano ....
adam, you cheeky monkey!
Woo go Dr Swayne!
Heard lots for the pianists let's hear it for the dancers
"ad, ad, ad, ad, adam swayne, ohwoah, we all love adam swayne!!" (if you were there you'd understand....)
Lovely to hear Adam play - great pianist and brilliant tutor. Fantastic event people. LJ

adam swain is a hero

Strangely addictive, can't help but watch! Well done guys...Go on Dr. Swayne!
this is a brilliant piece of music
reminds me of giant aquatic Brazilian centipedes and Misterioso ;)
nuts
It quickly becomes mind-stirringly sub conscious.. I forget I am listening to it.
Very addictive, have logged on a few times, well done to all, it's brilliant. Jacqueline Mason
I am sitting in my room watching Vexations and its not really doing much to me, although my housemate did shout for me to turn it down.....
we can't hear Tej speaking. The playing was brill. Well done Tej
Mary is a star!
ooooooooooooh I get to see a transition!! lol
Well done Tej. Nice playing
Vexations is meant to be.... Vexing!
This is great. But it must be so tedious to just play the same bars over and over and over and over again.
does the piece stay like this the whole time, or does it start to develop after 380-400 repetitions enjoying it though from the Postman
Well done Tej! love Mum and Dad
can someone play the theme in the right hand over a walking bass line please William Screwloos
keep going nic it's looking great hun x
Simran says way to go Tej bro! Can he have the jacket back in the morning?

well done big dan, you were just great, even though, your hat is a state, i want a big hug, from your muscley arms, i think you will win me, with your boyhood charms, i like your straight jaw, but mine is fitter, youve just been haunted. xx
Well done Dan; Good luck Rita!
We want more Krystyna!
We love dan he is a legend and we back his late nite smoking sessions all the way. Can't wait till Christmas and all the presents that come with it! John pollard is an insomniac by the way whoo and Robbie loves emily so very much
Im liking the energy in the dance its a vexing contrast to the monotomous music
I would be well distracted with the fittys dancing behind dan
what kind of comment is the the music must be effecting you
The boy with the hat has lovely skin. What miosturiser do u think he uses?
woop woop loving the hat dan wore!
I am so vexed right now
There once was a fellow called Dan Whose hat made him quite a cool man. He played his Vexations with no agitations And of him I'm a Number One fan. (The Vexing Limerist)
Hat's off to you!
That boy with the hat has lovely hands

Wonderful to see and hear this mix of creative genres developing in real time. Congratulations to everyone, especially dear Paul. Proud of you. Mom B
We Love Dan and His Hat!
How very vexing!! Vexations at Chi Uni is in full flow. Many of us have played and many to go. At least eighteen hours of Satie's work - Was he a genius or just a berk? I'm hanging around now by the curtain, Waiting to play and feeling uncertain. Should I go out now or should I wait? I mustn't be early but mustn't be late! I'm out there now on the Steinway B The lights are on and the camera's on me. The stool's too high and I'm feeling quite hot. Have I played line 2 or 4 ...or what? I think I'm on my 18th repeat But it could be 19 - am I a cheat? Out of the corner of my eye The counter looms - it does not lie - We hope it doesn't anyway. Some have played 25 repeats I've heard them say! I'm following the arrows now out of the room And am back in the safety of the interview room. So here's to Vexations - Satie's little jest Good luck to all our pianists - You're the best!! Susan
Whos this gaffer in the hat whos he trying to impress!!!!
Can't wait for Jamie Gordon tonight. Whoo whoo. Ben 10
We love you big Dan we do!!!1 we love you big Dan we do!!!!
Shakespeare never sounded so good.
thats the point of it
Do you do requests this music is rather drear
Im sitting in control for the next six hours by the end I may be insane. Enjoying it greatly, lovely playing by all with art and dance to match.
What a great event, you should all be very proud, it's vexing me out
I bet i know what the next 5 min will sound like
Marvelous truely marvelous, the addition of music truely justifys such an energetic piece.
Extraordinary
Marvelous truely marvelous, the addition of dance truely justifys the music
Change the record this sounds the same, radio dj's have nothing on you!
I've now had 2 cups of tea...hopefully that'll see me through my 48 repetitions...although if I fall asleep, will somebody please come and slap me? Ben L x x
This is really impressive, seeing the Vexations project at Chi finally happen. Congratulations to those who have been working on putting it together (particularly Jonathan and Paul). Have been watching in and out since three, and have seen every pianist so far and you're doing fab! My seven year old daughter has really enjoyed watching bits as well! Hope the dancers aren't too knackered at the end - some really interesting work by them. Well done all!
This is really Good. Keep it up guys. Love the dancers. Not sure whats going on with that string....
Woo go Tej. I'm miffed I miss Terry, that man has mojo. Are there supposed to be video interviews with the performers before and after vexating up here? I'm looking forward to my 4.20 slot, or nearabouts, and waiting it out till the end! Ben
i am very interested to know what the results will prove and what advantage they will be to the dance programme
This is a brilliant idea what a fantastic installation. Have to wait until 11.00pm for Tej. Go Tej go. love Mum xx
You're all doing great. Lovely to see a project combining the arts at Chichester. CWB x
glad to see you all still hard at work in the showroom!.. Mike
Can I have the piano when this is done? SL
We love you Terry xxxx
How about playing it up a semitone for a bit of variation?
I suspect this Allbright man could play all night. He's a whizz. Is he on again later?
I'm glad i only ate white food as Satie did. It clearly helped the performance but I'm now on the red wine. Cheers and toy toy to all the nocturnal performers tonight! SL xx
Terry is surely the Satie meister/maitresse?
Go on Terry! You have been added to my list of Chi Uni heroes.
Great to see Nic do a piece from scratch - impressive, but surely it must be difficult to time how long it will take...
TEZ ROCKS
Subtle shading, sensitive rubato, dynamic variety , fire. Superbement Tez. What more could Satie ask for??
Really really interesting! Would be nice to have the interviews looped in bottom right hand corner to see previous performers reactions to piece.
What a sense of line and flow - this Tez geezer is a master.
Terry is stonking!! Go Terry go go go!!! xxx
This is a great event, we worked live on the art installation from 4pm -6pm and it was an awesome experience being a small part of the whole. Chris and Eileen BA (Hons) Fine Art UoC
Hmmn, hope you can read this blog okay? !
It would be more fun of we could read peoples comments or chat online while watching/listening that would be very web2.0
We had to change the oil in the lamp im afraid.
What happened to the animation?
If you played it faster would it take less time to perform?
Great to see so many disciplines working together. Quite addictive. Kate (Hari's Mum)
Competition for 'Strictly'?!
lucy!
I've got some tarty red stilettos that would go well with your red skirt for next time. Sue Jux Management
I think Susan Legg is speeding up. Whats for supper Sue? Ann Martin-Davis, Royal College of Music
why is sue legg wearing a red skirt? surley this is inappropriate? Or is it a manifestation of the small vexation of having to play the same old boring chords for half an hour?
I like Nic's art work from Rose
Where is Auntie Nic?
this music is vexing me out
nice piano sound
Very clearly laid out website: good supporting information.
